I don’t know about you, but I’ve definitely realized that I am NOT the introvert I once thought I was. Has anyone else realized this lately? When the home or work order was put into place, I thought that I’d be fine through all of this. Quickly, I realized that an adult cannot count spending every waking moment with their children as adequate socialization. Also, I missed the heck out of my couples and downtown! So Caitlyn and Thomas’ engagement session was something that I was looking forward to, and I’m so glad that they were still wanting to do their session.
Thomas and Caitlyn were referred to me by their planner Jayme, with Brand Bars and Events. Side note; you should totally check them out! Anyway, back in November we had our pre booking consultation on the phone. That’s when I learned that they’re also Virginians who found their way down south! We’re not from the same hometown, but it’s always exciting to meet people from my home state! Thomas sells real estate here in the Charleston area, and Caitlyn is a color consultant for homes. They’re pretty much the perfect duo and need to consider teaming up to become the next Chip and Joanna Gaines!
If you ask me, the home or work order was lifted just in time. I think many of us were ready to get out of the house, and smiling faces of those walking through Battery Park kind of proved it. Like Thomas mentioned during our session, it seems that people are a lot friendlier to each other now as a result of this COVID-19 mess. Based on what we experienced during our time together, I would have to say that I agree. There was a different feel downtown. People just seemed….friendlier, happier and more personable. Maybe it was that we’d all been cooped up in our houses for so long that we’re yearning for social interaction. Maybe it was the lack of tourists and more room to roam about without frustrations. I can’t really say. But it was different; in a good way.
Their engagement session was the perfect way for me to kick back off the year. It was nice to finally get out of the house and behind my camera, and even better to finally meet Caitlyn, Thomas, and their pups in person! Taking couples portraits of Captain America and Elsa was only going to hold me over but for so long! I missed the beauty of downtown- the ivy, the roses, the stunning window boxes, and the sunsets over the water. So when our initial plan of going to Hampton Park fell through due to lack of parking, it was not a disappointment at all to head over to the Battery.
I just knew it was going to be a great session the moment that they arrived. We immediately started out cracking jokes, which is always a sign that it’s going to be a good time! They also asked if they could bring their dogs, to which, I always say YES! Their dogs were rockstars too. I mean, talk about well behaved! I’m always amazed when I see people take their dog’s leash off and their dog doesn’t run away. Mine (well, Indy) would have taken off. We laughed pretty much the entire time we were together. Which if you ask me, is a win in my book!
It was such a great evening at Battery Park and roaming the streets of Charleston with you Caitlyn and Thomas! I don’t think that your engagement session could have been any more perfect. I am so excited for your wedding in October. If yesterday was an indication of what your wedding is going to be like, I just know it will be fun; so long as we’re not mauled by a Christ Pratt fan club! Thank you Caitlyn and Thomas for such a fun evening! I’ll see you at Alhambra in the Fall!
